What if everything portrayed in science fiction TV-series was in fact real?
Jules Verne imagined a world with flying machines and underwater exploration, thoughts way ahead of their time. Were they in fact premonitions or just the wishful thinking of a science buff? Whatever the answer, he was eventually right.
My wishful thinking makes me believe that the extraordinary fantasies conceived by the human mind today will actually be our future. And why not?
What would be more enticing than travelling light years in a few minutes and meeting alien civilizations (not that our own planet doesn't already have enough to explore)? Or maybe living in a world where people can fly, read minds or manipulate matter? Or perhaps meeting different versions of ourselves in parallel universes, to see how differently our lives could have turned out? What if...
I also have to admit that, indeed, the world, the general public, is not ready for this kind of activities. We are not open minded enough, our prejudices dictate our behavior and we still cannot shake our preconceptions. Even if some of the fiction is possible today, I trust that it is performed in the greatest secrecy in facilities like Area51 in the Nevada Desert.
So, we've already witnessed flying machines, underwater ships, animal cloning, genetic manipulation and space travel. Why shouldn't everything else be possible.
I would surely like to be around when these things happen (my wishful thinking kicking in again).
