For whom it may concern

For whom it may concern, we celebrate the Day of Oradea every year on the 12th of October... For a few days, the center of the town turns into an amusement park/concert site/city dump. All fun and games, but really, how many of us do really know what we celebrate.
I wasn't sure, either, that's why I asked my good ol' friend, Google, and i got the following replies:
On October 12th 1918, the Declaration from Oradea was signed, which proclaimed the right to independence of all Romanians living in Transylvania.
On October 12th 1944, the Soviet army marked the official liberation of Oradea from under the Hungarian Fascist occupation...

Not very fun things to think about over a beer at a concert, surrounded by the overwhelming smell of smoked wieners, caramel popcorn and roasted chestnuts. But politics marked the date in history, politics marks it every year. However, that doesn't matter, as long as the masses are entertained.

This year, the festival spanned over three weekends, culminating Friday with a concert and the traditional fireworks. Nothing extraordinary, nothing worth mentioning, except that Directia5 put on a great show and the fireworks were somewhat interesting. Other than that... same ol' ''dust in the eyes'' story.
